The Warrenton School of Music located at Drum & Strum has been serving Fauquier and surrounding areas for the past 20 years. We think of our students as family, and we're here to help you become the best musician you can be. Lessons are given in half hour blocks, one lesson per week on a permanent basis that will be scheduled according to availability at the time of registration. All lessons are given in private studios on the Drum & Strum premises. We have an excellent staff of qualified and professional Music Instructors, and we feel confident we can offer one that's just right for you. Our Teachers:

Beth Dingus - Piano / Voice

Beth has been playing the piano and performing since she was 10 years old. She has performed in recitals, concerts, and competitions in the United States and Europe over the past 15 years. Beth received her bachelor’s degree in 2004 from the University of Mary Washington with a major in Music Performance. She also served for a year as the assistant music director at St. John’s Catholic Church in Warrenton. She has been teaching piano since 2003 and has been teaching at Drum & Strum since 2004. She enjoys it immensely and loves introducing people of all ages to the wonderful world of music. Beth also enjoys singing and playing bluegrass guitar with her husband, Tim.

 

 

 


 

Rocky Cancelose - Drums

Rocky began playing the drums at a very early age, and was inspired by the great jazz drummer Buddy Rich, and the legendary Beatles. To expand his musical perspective over the years, he has participated in an assortment of drummer’s clinics and Modern Drum festivals with such talents as Dennis Chambers, Terry Bozzio, Ricky Sebastian, Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham, Chad Wackerman, Joe Morello, Adam Nussbaum, and Luis Conte.Rocky attended the prestigious Drummers Collective in New York and had the opportunity to study under, Frank Katz, Fred Klatz, Kim Plainfield, Jim Chapin, Michael Lauren, Bobby Sanabria, Duduka Da Fonseca, and Kenwood Denard. While at the collective he completed courses on traditional drum techniques and styles such as 6/8 bembe, Clave (Son, Romba), Mombo, Mozambique, Calypso, Songo, Merengue, Reggae, Samba, Bossa Nova, Funk, Shuffles, New Orleans Funk, Swing, Jazz, Rock, Odd Meters and Fusion. In addition to playing in several bands over the years, rock, jazz, funk, fusion and punk, Rocky has also worked in a number of recording studios and recorded and helped produce several albums. Rocky has an innovative, creative and inspiring method to his teaching. His teaching philosophy has a strong emphasis on the basics of drumming, timing and rudimental playing. He feels the students should learn how to read music, as well as hear and feel the music, with a strong emphasis on musicianship and independence. Rocky is innovative, creative, inspiring, and has over 36 years of experience in Percussion.

 

 


 

 

Steve Jefferies - Guitar

Steve has been playing guitar for the last 17 years. He has played in numerous bands over this time including being one of the founding members of the local/nationally signed rock outfit the Daycare Swindlers. His main influences range from the Clash to Dick Dale. He covers many styles ranging from country to blues, rock, ska, reggae, and punk rock just to name a few.
